Cows are just great!
The cows are great! They are so friendly, so inquisitive, so peaceful and one quick rattle of the bucket and they all come running. Standing or even sitting amongst them is a joy and watching the calves drink from their mums is delightful. The milk flows copiously to the point where it is all over the calf’s chin and cheeks. Sage’s calf is hilarious as he often drinks from ‘behind’ his mum, although if he mis-times his ‘exit’ he can end up with poo on his head: not ‘quite’ so hilarious!!!

We have tested their poo for worms (just as we have with the sheep, goats and alpacas) and were rather thrilled when the egg counts came back as zeros all round. Sage’s poo in particular is still rather loose but there is still a lot of grass around still and, thanks to recent rainfall and heavy morning dews, the grass is very wet!
The photos are of Parsley (right) and her bull-calf: cows don’t really do ‘smiles’!!
