The hardest decision...
It's been a while since we mentioned the goats!! And it is not good news. Having decided to keep Curds, Cheddar and Gorge as non breeding 'pets', the last two weeks have seen a rapid deterioration in the twins' health. Gorge now spends more time lying down and on her knees than she does actually walking whilst Cheddar's walking gets ever more wobbly! Curds is actually okay, she clicks when she walks and her feet are still their usual deformed selves but bizarrely, her movement is as fine as it is ever has been.
Relaxed at Home
We have spent the last few days talking to a variety of 'experts', including our own vets as it is now rather obvious that the well-being of the goats themselves is rather more crucial than our overall goat keeping plans. Gorge is in pain, that is not in doubt now and the pain relief we have given her in the past we know to be not terribly effective. The supplements all the goats are all on are designed to stop problems arising and/or ease the effects of any existing conditions. They are not a cure.
The decision has thus been made to euthanize both girls and we now have the weekend to consider this decision and so hopefully feel prepared for the vet's arrival on Monday afternoon. Not sure we will!!!
