On guard!!
We are fairly sure that we don't have any unwanted daytime visitors in the poultry area but nevertheless, whenever we see the alpacas 'on guard' like this we do scout the area, just in case! Sometimes, our own cats can cause an alert: alpacas really don't like cats, even ones that 'belong' on the smallholding. They don't like dogs either but they do get to know the ones that live with them and don't try to chase them off.
Relaxed at Home
We are not sure what caused this group stare. It could have been a pheasant (around a lot at the moment although our turkeys usually chase them off), one of the cats, a squirrel... whatever it was, it must have scarpered though cos after a couple of minutes normal service was resumed.
IF we do start to get any unwelcome predators we will probably need to let the alpacas in with the poultry for a day or two so they can spread their scent around the perimeter and do few 'scary' stares! After all, they don't really have any other jobs on the holding so need to slightly earn their keep (although providing a 'cute' factor earns them a fair few noddy points!!)
