Our four turkey poults are doing really well; they are independent little things and can often be found amusing themselves away from both their parents. At night they all sleep with their Brahma mum whilst Victoria perches with the other adults but by day, Victoria resumes her mum role. Both the Brahma and Victoria have moulted in the last couple of weeks which is entirely normal for this time of year. Having chicks during the moult is not quite so normal however and it may be that the Brahma has been kept warm at night by the youngsters as much as they have been getting warmth from her.
We are not entirely sure what our plans for these four are: it may be that we will sell them in the spring rather than dispatch them for the freezer. In part it will depend on whether they are males or females: four females would be nice!!
