A stunning Autumn
Autumn is spectacular here in Devon. We are surrounded by far more trees than we were back In Cornwall and having such fabulous weather has made the move from Summer to Autumn far more pleasurable. Apparently in October, we had just 30% of the usual expected rainfall and, in common with most other smallholders/ farmers we know, there is much rejoicing to be had as the land is still so incredibly dry. Friends who normally have their cows indoors for the winter by now are clapping their hands in glee. Hay supplies should, in theory, more than last the full winter and touch wood, muddy fields are not yet developing.
Relaxed at Home
It could of course all change but for the moment, we are thoroughly enjoying how easy the good weather is making the daily smallholding chores. And of course the animals are all still grazing and not seeking shelter from the wind, rain and cold!!
