Goat harmony?
The goats have had a much better few days since we last mentioned them (28th/29th Nov). The cold weather may have helped as it has been drier both under foot and above!! They have all been out every day without too many pushing and shoving incidents and with far less screaming from the Boers. We had been having thoughts as to whether they were going to gel as one group and if not, should we perhaps postpone our Boer breeding programme for a while. Happily we now feel more confident that we can make it all work.
Relaxed at Home
Pickle is due back in season on Tuesday (ish) and if Pepper shows no interest (which we don’t think he will) we will then take her to a friend’s farm where an older billy awaits her!! It has been suggested that when she came back into season on 15th of last month that actually that may have been a 'false' season and she could in fact be in kid from when Pepper mated with her on 22nd October. The gap was 24 days which is 3 days over the normal 21 plus Pickle’s seasons are usually 18/19 days apart. We really have no idea at this stage. If she returns this time (comes back into season) we think we will conclude she cannot be in kid, if she doesn't we may well get her scanned to then check what is going on..
Curds has been a bit stiff on her legs again and for her, a bit subdued since being in season on Monday. In the photo she looks a little tired to be sure!!!
