Goats path and sheep rack
The goat path IS now finished but by the time we were tidying everything away and returning tools to their right places, it was too dark to take a picture… Instead, we have a shot of the sheep eating from their new hay rack, mentioned on Tuesday! Look closely and a few bits are already on the ground and this was after just five minutes of being filled up and wheeled to new grass. Despite a lid and a tray, even this wonderful rack will give us wastage (see our diary entry yesterday) BUT we will rake it all up and then put it under some of our grass mats to help stop the mud oozing through - works a treat (although needs doing regularly!!).
Relaxed at Home
We are very pleased with the goat path as we now have full, non-muddy access from the barn to the goat shelter. We have also laid mats in the front half of the shelter (it was just the ground before) in order to keep the bedding here drier (we already have them at the back). Jack also washed the grass mats that were laid in front of the shelter as these had become a bit clogged with mud. She can report that she got very cold and very wet and VERY filthy!!
Operation woodchip is now drawing to a close, we need to put a bit more down in front of the barn as well as around the gates into both the Collecting area and then the cow pad itself. Both gateways have suffered with the quad and trailer going in and out and of course we will continue to use them to get in and muck out/ feed twice a day so don't want them to get any worse!
Storm Barbara is due to hit us tomorrow so we will see how all the animals get on in their newly arranged shelters and enclosures!!!
