Using the goat path
And here it is in all its glory (apologies for the poor quality photos): our shiny new goat path which as you can see, is being successfully used without the worry and fear shown yesterday!! It will be interesting to see how it fares as the winter progresses. As with the cow pad, the woodchip will slowly rot, helped by the poo of course and in places the grass will grow through – which will be a good thing!

We are going to keep back some of the woodchip so we can top up accordingly. Our hope is that this path will last the winter, become a bit redundant in the spring/ summer and then just need a bit of a top up next autumn again! We do wonder though whether the goat kids and lambs might use it as a bit of a race track.. that would be fun!!
And in other deeply disappointing news, Pickle once again came back into season and not only was Pepper, here at home, not interested in mating with her, but nor was the Boer billy belonging to a friend.
In the New Year we perhaps need to get Rachel from Market Vets out to see what is going on… We posted on a FB forum and did some follow up reading and one theory is that she might have cystic ovaries which are preventing her from getting to the next stage of her season, i.e. the ‘standing’ heat (where the billy detects she is ready to be mated and where she then ‘stands’ still for him).
Fingers crossed we can get it sorted!!!
