Things are starting
The planting season edges ever closer and we are starting to take advantage of the growing daylight hours (over nine and a half now) and, when the sun comes out, the extra warmth in the greenhouse AND on our bedroom window sills. There is not a lot showing ABOVE the soil just yet but plenty of activity going on below (we hope).
Relaxed at Home
From top left in the photo: coriander that has been potted up; the greenhouse itself with prepared beds on the right ready for tomatoes (seeds just started to sprout in the seed trays), melon and aubergines; citrus trees in pots on the left and seed trays on top containing oak, ash and sweet chestnut seedlings from seeds we collected this last autumn (as mentioned on 26th Jan)…..
Next (bottom right) we have the asparagus bed (mentioned on 26th Jan), filled with compost and covered to keep it warm and moist and so encourage the worms et al to get to work. The asparagus plants arrive in a month or so now!! Chitting potatoes (earlies) can be found bottom left and finally the middle left photo is of our sprouting onions in very compost-rich outside beds, we also have carrots and garlic (garlic already sprouting) in outside beds too.
On the bedroom windows sills we have developing chilies, lettuce, tomatoes and in the fruit area we have planted one apple, one pear and one plum tree: each with two varieties on each stem.
We are due some cold weather now, great to dry off the ground, not so good for our seedlings: thank goodness for greenhouses and window sills (although we do have to keep the doors and windows shut so the cats don’t mistake the seed trays for something else).
