Pepper and an improved Garlic!
You would be forgiven thinking we had a new goat!!! No, this ‘brown’ chap is indeed Pepper who somehow seems to have lost his rather lovely white coat and is now sporting a mucky brown one. We are not entirely sure why he is so filthy: a combination of the recent rain (and therefore mud, not that he lies in it…) and the fact he is a male goat and prone to ‘excretions’ that the rest of us prefer to do in the privacy of the bathroom!!! Hmmm… He is developing into a lovely chap and as the photo shows, is quite chilled and laid back.
Relaxed at Home
We are getting to the stage where he will have to be separated from his girls however. They won’t want him around when they kid (and nor will we) and as Boers come into season all year round, in theory a few weeks after they have kidded, he could impregnate them again (which we don’t want), firstly because it would mean kidding in the winter (no thanks) and secondly because we prefer to only kid once a year – it is probably better for the goats too!
Garlic is much better now: no limping at all. She still lies down and has a few moans and groans but with 2 weeks till kidding, she is allowed a few grumbles!!! .
