Fox-proof??
The rhea continue to do well. We have (with fingers, toes and everything else crossed) been allowing them to stay out all night in the belief that they are now, at seven months, pretty fox proof. Size wise they are now taller than the stock fencing, just. They are also very fast - though whether they could out run a fox is a moot point. The alpacas are in the next field so they are afforded some protection from them too. Even writing about feels like it is tempting fate though!!
Relaxed at Home
BUT we know that foxes are NOT common around here and that they are well controlled by the farmers, so that gives us a good degree of comfort it has to be said!!
We do get the odd wet night and wondered whether the rhea would head for their shelter to avoid getting wet. They don’t!! They just hunker down and then look all bright-eyed and bushy tailed the next morning!!
Remarkable creatures!!
