Counting worms
In view of the large amount of grass eating the goats have been doing recently – they always enjoy the first spring growth – we sent poo samples in to our vets for fecal egg testing last week. We sent in sheep and alpaca ones too. This is a classic time to test, with lambing and kidding approaching as we don’t want high levels of eggs and worms being expelled onto the pasture for the young stock to then pick up. The sheep and alpacas all came back with 0 or very low egg numbers, the goats not!! Onion was a medium count and the rest high!!
Relaxed at Home
We are not surprised – goats don’t develop an immunity to gut parasites the way sheep do and we have observed some pretty rubbish poo recently.
So, the goats are all now wormed and fingers crossed this sorts things...
