On her feet!!
Sorrel, who at the moment seems to lurch from one heath crisis to the next, has been lame on and off for a few days and so today we called out Graeme form Torch Vets to have a look. We had identified the source of the problem (we hoped) but were unsure how to resolve it. Essentially, Sorrel's horn on the inside right of her front left foot had come away from her hoof. We couldn't see any obvious infection or foreign objects in there but nonetheless, it was obviously sore. Graeme's solution was to trim the horn right back and expose the hoof which we could see was quite red and bruised. Although this meant Sorrel was walking on the sole of her foot and not the horn, it also meant the horn was no longer pressing on her foot and as such, it was much less sore for her to walk on.
Relaxed at Home
I don’t think we would have been so brave to have cut it back quite so much but of course it will re grow and the hope when it does, is that it will be up against the hoof wall as it should be, with no gap.
Graeme gave all her feet a trim and when we released her, her lameness was already 90% better. Just brilliant!!
