Mixed feelings.
Today we caught a fox in our trap!!!! We have had the trap set since our daytime fox visitor in the spring and it has basically become a place we put any dead birds but up until today, we hadn't caught anything!! In all likelihood, this fox was the one who killed Guinevere last week and who we think had been displaced by the hunt and as such, was in unfamiliar territory. She (and it was a she) had a great last meal as the remains of Guinevere was in the trap... and then our local vermin control guy came and shot it for us!!
This is the second time since being smallholders that a fox has died at our hands (the first was also caught and shot). It is all legal and humane and in terms of protecting our birds, necessary but is doesn't sit comfortablly with us at all!!!
