We set up this old bath as a potential ‘pond’ for the ducks several weeks ago and today Banana decided to introduce her ducklings to it. The bath is not sunk into the ground as that would make it hard to empty. Instead we have it resting on a frame and surrounded by old tree trunks/ fence posts, positioned so the ducklings can climb up. The idea is that when it gets filthy, we can scoop out most of the dirty water and then tip the bath up and over to empty the rest, before giving it a clean and refill.
In theory the duckling feathers are not that well protected yet with oils to keep them dry BUT, there is enough there to stop their feathers getting really drenched!!
It was a seriously cute spectacle and our only worry now is that Pear may try getting in with her two ducklings and the chickling and if she does, the chickling won’t have a clue what he/she is meant to do!!
