We’ve gone for unashamedly cute today. These are two of our 15 bantam X chicks, now 3 weeks old and all looking wondrously scruffy as true feathers start to come through and fluffy feathers try to hang on. They still have their two mums and (touch wood) they seem to be thriving out there in the big wide world.
We do however, have slight concerns about our latest arrivals: the four turkey poults and one chick born over the weekend. It was FIVE turkeys but one died on day one - chased and pecked we think by adult birds when it left the nest – and whilst the rest are looking good they don’t seem to know which mum to follow and so invariably end up the other side of the stall away from both. As for the mums themselves (Victoria and the Brahma X chicken), they seem oblivious to the plaintive cheeps resounding off the walls despite the fact we can hear them from half way up the garden!!!
Fingers crossed that mother and baby bonding improves soon...
