Pickle!!!
Pickle came back into season today, not a disaster necessarily but it became one when Pepper showed absolutely no interest in her whatsoever! Onion and Garlic have not come back into season (they were due around now too) and so it is likely that they ARE pregnant but the question is: why did Pickle not get pregnant with her first mating and more importantly why is Pepper now giving her the cold shoulder? Male goats are meant to be VERY randy. Curds was in season last week (8th) and Pepper showed no interest in her either!! We don’t have a clue why this should be and have emailed Pepper’s breeder (a long standing, very experienced goat person) to see if she has any ideas!!
We are not too worried about Curds not being pregnant as her kids would be destined for the freezer but we would very much like Pickle to be in kid. We are quite keen to milk her again and make a bit of cheese if we can plus we are sure that the Boer X kids she will produce wil be VERY pretty!! Let's hope we can get things sorted!! |
