Pickle came back into season yesterday (day 20) but unfortunately ‘husband number 2’ (George Clooney of the Boer world and resident just down the road from us) was not available! We hoped she would still be in season today but alas no, and so yet another 21 day cycle has been and gone and so now we are about 99% sure Pickle is NOT pregnant There are all sorts of issues here: we are still a tad concerned that Pepper is showing no interest in either Curds or Pickle and yet appears to have been successful in getting Onion and Garlic into kid. We also wonder about Pickle herself, why did she not take when Pepper mated with her back in October? Does the fact she was NOT in kid last year have any bearing? With cows, our understanding is that fertility can lessen if they are not in calf once a year but with goats we don’t think this is the case!
We are very keen to get Pickle into kid and now of course even if we succeed, she will kid so much later than the Boers!!
Nothing can be done now until her next due season, round about Christmas!!! Joy!!
