Pleading!!
Here are Lamorna and Cadbury: looking just a little bit, ever so slightly pathetic and pleading!! This was the sight that greeted us as we went down for afternoon feeding. Behind these two were the other eight sheep and all five alpacas!!!
To be fair to them all, the weather is rubbish at the moment and so 'afternoon tea' must be a welcome diversion for them. It’s not that they mind the rain that much but the ground is a little soggy again and they do LOVE their winter feed!
Relaxed at Home
We have said before how pleased we are that we have kept these two lambs. They have fabulous temperaments and are a great advert for how easy sheep can be to care for. They have has zero ill-health problems (to date), no lameness and both are a fabulous size. Lamorna is in lamb and we hope her good size and overall well-being will ensure a successful birth. It is usual to wait till sheep are 18 months old before putting them to the ram but as Lamorna has grown so well and hopefully has some cross-breed 'rigour' (she is Badger Face x Beltex) we are optimistic she will be okay.
Interestingly, both her and her brother have great fleeces too, far softer than their mums (Mrs Brown, a Badger Face) and thicker. As our ram this year was a Shetland, also known for thick, soft fleeces, we are excited about seeing what Lamorna’s lamb (or lambs) wool will be like. We are not at all expert as assessing fleeces, maybe we can find someone to tell us what they think!
