And then there were four!!
Well, what a treat. This was the sight that greeted us on our first check of the barn this morning, around 7.30am. They were probably no more than half an hour old and very wobbly still BUT they were up and both suckling. So who’s the mum??? Amazingly is it SKERRY who was indeed due today and after having her foot sorted out yesterday was obviously very happy to introduce these two to the world!! We have one boy (on the left), one girl (on the right), weighing in this evening at 2.1kg and 2.2 kg respectively: a lot lighter than Mrs White’s pair. So Mrs Brown and Lamorna are STILL pregnant!!! The bets are now on as to who will pop next: the Boers are due on Friday so it may well be them. In other' excitements' we put Mrs White and her two outside this afternoon (into the delightfully dry top 3-acre) – Mrs W gorged on the grass and the lambs bounced and looked and sniffed and stuck as close to mum as they possibly could. This evening, which after quite a clear day became murky and damp, all three could be found snuggled down in the field shelter. We are now running at 200% lambing rate with the (2 ewes giving us 4 lambs), 100% zero interference (i.e. the ewes have lambed without human help) and a ratio of 1:1 male/female. So far, so VERY good!!! |
