Bonny Boers
Our six kids are all doing really well and are such time wasters. Even if we go in the barn and they are asleep, we find ourselves losing time as we just stand and watch them. Garlic’s trio now wander outside into the area between the 4-acre and the 3-acre fields. Despite the rain of the last 2 days (yes, we lost our lovely sunshine from the weekend…), this area is not too wet and so much fun is had running up and down the flagstones and – favourite activity – sneaking under the gates into the lean-to! Shale and Ryka now sleep in here at night whilst mum curls up with Terelle!!
Pepper is out and about with them too – we cannot say he is ‘'enjoying' his sons and daughters at the moment but we are sure his time will come when they are bigger and more fun to play with. We weighed them all today. We can see that on the whole they are all doing well but it is good to check that gains are similar across all six kids and no one is falling behind. Amazingly in three days all of Onion’s gang (named Nealrith, Kanrd and Umber, all from the same book!!) had all gained 0.4 of a kilo! Ryka and Shale had each gained 0.7kg in 5 days and Terelle (the smallest when born), had gained a massive 0.9kgs!! A good weight gain by the time the kids are 2 weeks old is around 200g a day so it looks like we are heading that way. We also checked bums which can get a tad poo-ey, especially with the early yellow poo that is produced whilst the kid is on milk only! We are happy to report that all were pretty clean. Unlike Onion and Garlic’s back ends which had the remains of the birthing liquids on them – (but not any more). Picture is of Umber, the smallest - very cute!! |
