Our first chicks
Our clever Queenie Baby Pale has hatched out a grand total of EIGHT Indian Game eggs from the 12 she had. This is a good hatch for posted eggs. We have four very dark stripy ones and four yellow ones and we are not entirely sure why. This is not a male/female divide so we can only assume we may have different colours, maybe dark and jubilee? Or maybe some are born pale and get darker as they grow. The yellow ones are a very golden yellow with patches of brown already showing. We have emailed the seller from whom we bought the eggs to ask.

It is a fab start to our chick hatching for the year although sadly, none of our other brought-in eggs look as though they are going to give us quite such good results. The other set of Indian Game only have five out of 12 fertile eggs, the Exchequer leghorns just three out of six and of the Marans it looks as though we have just two from the four that did not get smashed!!
BUT, better news when it comes to our turkey and goose eggs. Victoria is sat on 13 turkey eggs, we candled six and FIVE were fertile and it looks as though ALL the goose eggs are fertile although one appears to be less developed than the rest so may have stopped growing. It is early days with these eggs though, they are just one week through their four-week incubation period and are being hatched by very small chickens compared to a goose. Whether the chickens can maintain the right temperature and humidity remains to be seen!!
Both Pear and Katherine are now sitting on their eggs (duck and turkey respectively) so we now have as many broody birds as we do non-broody!! Good thing we don’t rely in the eggs for eating!!!
