The other side
The grass really is greener the other side!!! This is Muckle’s ram lamb - if 'he' was a 'she' we would definitely keep her – he has the sweetest face and an amazing coat and it will be very hard to part with him when the time comes…
Relaxed at Home
Talking of parting with, we HAVE' parted with Cadbury and Lamorna. They and Lamorna's two lambs have gone to live on a nearby smallholding and are set to live the rest of their natural lives as very happy lawn mowers!!! We decided a while back that we wanted the flexibility of keeping our numbers small in order to (occasionally) allow for keeping some of our own home-bred stock. We also felt that stocking with pure Badger Face and Shetland was a more sensible option too. The decision was helped by the fact that the owners of this smallholding are good friends and so a) we know the four sheep will get to have a great life and b) we will still see them.
We probably won’t keep any of this year’s lambs but next year we might. A lot will depend on how things go with the other animals and how we fare for grass over the next six months.
There’s good news there too (on the grass front), we have had a fair amount of rain over the last few days and the grass is now both greener and starting to really shoot up again! This is great for all these developing lambs, kids and calves: plenty to go round – we hope!!!
