Lobster
A bit too soon after losing Rabbit back in February (our 13 year old Springador), today we said farewell to Lobster, our oldest Gordon Setter! He was 9 1/2 years old and had had diabetes for the last two of these. In 4 out of 5 diabetic dogs, once the insulin dose is sorted, they can lead perfectly normal lives. Lobster was one of the 1 out of 5. For him the diabetes was a thoroughly unpleasant illness that led to so many other health issues: Pancreatitis, Cataracts (and ultimately blindness), High blood pressure, Hypertensive Retinopathy, Urine infections... to name but a few... He tried very hard to cope with all that was thrown at him, he was on a lot of medication and towards the end he was very grumpy and very disorientated.

It was a tougher call than with Rabbit as we were looking at Lobster’s emotional well-being alongside his physical. Thank goodness for our wonderful vet who asked the right questions and guided us to the right choice!!!
Everything is VERY quiet in our house just now!!!
