Win some, lose some
As the picture shows, we have more turkeys!! Katherine has been sitting on five eggs in the broody wing, having been moved there a week or so ago when the nest sharing in the pig arc just got daft as Elizabeth muscled in on both her and Napoleona. There had been more eggs but some had got crushed or ‘disappeared'. Such are the joys of nest sharing!!
Relaxed at Home
Katherine is a great mum: we just love the way she gently used her bill to tuck these poults back underneath her. We will leave her in the broody wing for a few days and then she can join Victoria and Napoleon and our first poults over in the Collecting area. Mind you, the weather is set to be wet and windy this coming week so we may delay that a little!!!
In NOT such good news, we have lost one of the goslings. We have no idea why, we just found her dead this morning on the straw!! Raising poultry really can be a fragile pastime.
All other birds and chicks are doing well, we have well over thirty chicks in the main poultry paddock and stables being looked after by six birds. It's brilliant watching them in their family groups as they scratch, feed, drink, run, cheep, sunbathe, perch… and it’s rather amazing that at the end of each day all the chicks all end up safely tucked up under the right mums!!!
