Seriously spoilt cows
We have some seriously spoilt cows: they don’t NEED this field shelter but because we have continued to have a bit of rain still after the ravages on Monday, and because Jack is a softie, we left it open for them and they have been more than happy to keep coming in. They could actually shelter under the hedgerows and trees and in point of fact often ignore the rain anyway. When this photo was taken it was not actually raining at all…
Relaxed at Home
The calves are all doing really well, are very active, inquisitive, drinking loads and doing all the things that calves should do. Still no sign of ‘bulling’ females…. We remain unworried, for now!!
Our field shelters 'are' utterly brilliant, they have proved really versatile and perfect for all stock and they keep very dry on the whole. They do create a bit of extra work because when the animals poo in there, we do tend to muck out in the same way we would in the barn BUT we would rather know the animals have somewhere to go out of the really bad weather, so really the ‘extra’ work is a fair price to pay for peace of mind (although it would be nice if Sage did not poo up the walls quite so much it has to be said...)!
