Our second unpacking
The wait is over. We were rather worried that Saturn was NOT going to have given birth before shearing on Sunday, which would have been somewhat of an issue (you cannot shear an 'about-to-give-birth' animal) but this morning at around 8am, she went ahead and 'dropped' this long legged beauty. It is another ‘he’ and we have named him Pluto and looking at both him and Mars today, it was muted that seven alpacas is rather a nice number to have - long term!!!! Hmmmm...
Saturn is a VERY protective mum but then we knew this from when we first brought her here with a four-week old Mercury last August. Having said that, we got very close to her and Pluto and she seemed to tolerate us better than Neptune and Jupiter, both of who were spat at – although both of them were doing their guarding duties admirably and didn’t really deserve a face full of regurgitated grass. So, our four-legged births are now over. We have had a total of 26 births, 14 males and 12 females with no assisted births and just one death. We think these are pretty good statistics!!! |
