Well, very good news: we have another laying chicken! This means that some days we may actually get TWO eggs a day! WOW!!! We think the bird in question is the one in the photo (born this year), and if not, it is her nearly identical sister!! She (they) are Indian Game crosses, the black neck plumage being particularly striking! The eggs are being laid in one of the hay racks in the goat shelter!! We now need to remember to check there every day!!! They are the ones at the front although, as you can see, one is a different shape and we wonder if that was her first egg (we found all three together today), first eggs often being smaller or differently shaped to the ones the bird eventually starts to regularly lay!!
The greeny/bluey eggs are from the bird we mentioned last month who 'was' our only layer – the colour doesn’t seem quite 'set' yet although we think it is the bloom that is at fault as it seems to come off and/or get easily scratched. Hopefully this will resolve itself in time: the eggs themselves are not affected - they are just delicious!!!
