Today continued to be cold with a few snow flurries on and off but we are beginning to melt. The forecast bizarrely is now for rain and rising temperatures and so we reluctantly, although somewhat inevitably, have put the cows back in their Pad. Not before cleaning it out mind you and removing the top layer of damp straw where the snow had come in and settled. We had to do this in ALL the shelters and even the first part of the barn so by the end of the day muscles were definitely aching!!! The cows seemed quite happy to be back in, they were hanging around the gate pretty much the entire time we were cleaning out their shed and when we opened up, in they walked. We are hoping their dry bedding will last the course till they go back out proper for the spring and then we can do a full clean, all ready for calving. That really will be a muscle aching day – the bedding is VERY deep!!
