Berry has so far been a very quiet and unassuming mum. She has had access to the outside of the barn for a few days now but has pretty much remained inside, dabbling and wandering in her straw filled stall. Until today that is!!! Today, in the pouring rain, she decided to take her six ducklings outside and then on a six mile hike out of the barn, over the paving slabs, under the gate, through the top of the 3-acre field and all round the poultry paddock. And what fun they had…The number of puddles the ducklings were able to swim and dabble in was just fabulous. It was all so brilliant to watch. We kept an eye because of course the geese are in the poultry paddock and last year we weren’t entirely sure if they were responsible for a couple of ducklings disappearing… but they remained quite oblivious to the new duck family and after a while, Berry turned around and headed back to the barn. So, a successful first outing and one that we thoroughly enjoyed being able to witness.
