Our oldest three turkey poults, now almost seven weeks old, are doing really well and interestingly, having been given up by their original mum (Napoloena) some time ago, they now spend a lot of time with dad, Napoloeon. Last year all the females sort of clubbed together to look after the poults and Napoleon joined them all cos otherwise he would have been ‘billy-no-mates’. But this year, Napoleona has gone back to being broody and as the other three females are being a bit hopeless about laying, they have not been ready to settle at being mums. And so Napoloen has taken it upon himself to be around these youngsters and to look out for them. It’s all quite fascinating.
Napoloena herself is back on over twenty eggs (as mentioned on 13th) and when we candled them a couple of days ago, we pulled out seven and SIX of them were fertile. They are due to hatch on 4th July!!! VERY exciting!!
