Eating the weeds
The rhea are just fab! We put them in a run during the day so they get to enjoy a bit of grass and sun on their backs and then bring them in before dusk to a freshly chopped bowl of dock leaves, buttercups and whatever we can find that we think they may enjoy. They do adore dock leaves it has to be said and tonight a couple of them were brave enough to take pieces direct from our fingers.
They have a delightful trill: at times it reverts to a more high pitched sound that indicates stress, but a slightly lower trilling seems to be more of a ‘I am here and okay’ type sound – not dissimilar to the alpaca hum.
Wonderful creatures!!
