Christmas and beyond!!
Our young Bourbon Red turkeys looking rather suspicious and fluffed up whilst a proud Victoria (Bronze) shows off her impressive feathering after the moult!
Due to late hatching (they are only three months old) , these youngsters are going to see their first Christmas and with any luck may well see a few more if they end up being good enough to sell for breeding!
Turkeys are massively sociable animals: we have 12 currently (our breeding quintet and seven of this year's poults who weren't bif enough for dispatvh when Stephenm was last here) and they literally spend their days as one big group. It can make them quite a force to be reckoned with if they decide another bird is in their way but more often than not their bark is far worse than their bite.
Their worst habit is gobbling and calling very close to where we are standing, either when we are on the phone or tying to talk to someone with us – they have done this on various farm walks and courses – always causes much amusement (usually)!!! |
