Dogs and rhea
Roxy, our youngest Gordon has been in season since around the 9th. This is her second season and whilst the first lasted around 3 weeks, it was (we now realize) very uneventful. This season, on the other hand, has been horrendous. Roxy has been super hormonal, deaf one minute and clingy the next and the two boys (Buzzard and Firefly) have been like teenage boys on speed. It really has been dog pornography in the making and we are seriously glad that today, day 18, it looks like things are finally starting to settle down.
Relaxed at Home
The one good thing though is that we have had to walk on our land, rather in our local woods, and as such we have walked the dogs in with the rhea and made sure that both species are comfortable with the other. Stonefly took a bit of work (!!!) but now when we go in the rhea field, the dogs race off to the bottom and the rhea then race off after them. Everyone then just mills around doing their own thing!!
The downside is the fact we now have yet another animal poo the dogs seem to enjoy eating: breaking that habit is going to be a bit more of a challenge.
