Chips and Chalk and pals, chilling in the February gloom...

2nd: Great role model
18 month old and 5 week old - aren't dogs amazing?
Suddenly Sparrow seems all grown up and the perfect role model to teach these young pups what's what!!
Think she spend more time with the pups now than their mum does!!!

3rd: Breaking and entering
Yes, this is what it looks like: FOUR cats on a seriously outrageous and naughty breaking and entering mission: one doing the actual deed, one keeping look out (not very effectively) and two hiding round the back, pretending not to be a part of it whilst totally knowing they are!!!
The dogs would NEVER behave like this!! And it's their food!!!!

4th: What a face!!

5th: Snooty
Mustard assumes, always, that she has a right to sit on the half-made alpaca rugs - 'quality control' she tells us, in her bestest, snootiest voice!!! Relaxed at Home
7th: Mars
Beautiful Mars - we do love her lipstick!

9th: Catching the sunshine
The poultry, making the most of the sunshine that comes into the stables in the mornings!

10th: A spectacular fall .
It was quite a spectacular fall and yes the left hand side of my face is plastered in mud and yes David did instantly go for his camera before checking I was okay - I even think he said 'don't move, don't move' at one point as he struggled to work out which buttons on his phone he should be pressing.
Still, at least the dogs came over to check I was okay - although I think actually they were a little more interested in licking me clean.
And as my face shows I was seriously traumatized by the whole event - although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't aching now, just a little bit!!
Methinks I am getting too old to be gallivanting around in muddy fields.

12th: Peek-a-boo
One of Salt's favourite places - we feel really sad for her when the puppies go and we no longer need to dry their bowls behind the Stanley range!!

14th: Saturated
It doesn't look it, but Goat Field is really saturated just now... hoping it will last the rest of the winter but we expect we will need to move the 4-leggeds off it for a while...

16th: Sheep TLC day
As Storm Dudley ranged around us, we got all the sheep in for a TLC afternoon: they were treated for fluke (on account of it being so wet), bums, teeth and feet were all checked and once they were allowed back out, we generously strawed it their shelter so they could keep warm if they wanted to stay in - which most of them in fact then did exactly that!!

17th: Photo day
Jeanette and Diana came up from Oxford for a full-on puppy pamper day, ending with a brilliant photo shoot so we had individual shots of them all.
More cuteness overload can be found in the dog blog.

18th: Storm Eunice
Well, Storm Eunice has done her worst: we have lost bits of skylights from both the stables and the barn, leaving gaping holes in both roofs; our hayracks on wheels have been blown over and damaged plus - and this proves how really bad it has been - the rhea all but put themselves in the barn in an effort to escape the hideous wind and rain.
We are also without electricity - thank goodness for our generator which means we can keep the Stanley going and have a couple of lights plugged in, not to mention the wood burner which is ensuring we keep the puppies warm.
No idea when it might be restored so we are set to have a few challenging days ahead for sure!!

20th: Cosy
Despite the terrible weather - today Storm Eunice morphed into Storm Franklin - we have given the goats, sheep and alpacas free access to their shelters and barn. As you can see, they are choosing wisely!!!

22nd: Calmer
The weather is calming thankfully but of course our young rhea still need to be in each night, as much to keep warm as keep out of the way of any passing fox - love the way they cover their backs with straw!!
