Our standard and most popular rug size is approximately 30" by 50", we can also do shorter/ longer and wider (up to 39 inches) if required .
As a general guide, we can usually make one rug from 3-6kg of fleece, depending on how much we need to skirt (remove dirt and vegetable matter), the overall fleece density and the staple (fibre) length. For sheep wool, there will also be a loss in weight due to the lanolin and this can vary from breed to breed. In addition, for alpaca fleece, there is a difference between first and second cuts - firsts are the blanket fleeces from the back and sides of the animal, and usually longer and softer. We make rugs from either and/or both together. Before being sent to us, fleeces need to be dry and, as much as possible, picked clean of vegetable matter. Fleeces are best sent in strong plastic or hessian bags/ cardboard boxes, and may be packed as tight as you want! You can also vacuum-pack fleeces and so reduce your postage costs to send them to us. As long as the fibre is dry, vacuum packing won't harm the fleece at all. Once we receive your fibre, we assess and weigh and then talk to you in more detail about the number and size of rugs that can be made. We are always happy to hear your design ideas and just as happy to come up with our own. We usually suggest looking at the photos of rugs on our website to see what can be done. We charge £250 for a standard rug, P&P is included. We won't ask for your money until we start to process your fibre but recommend sending the fibre to us as soon as you can in order to then 'claim' your position in our order book. From receipt of fibre to receiving your finished rug is usually around two to five months, depending on the time of year (shearing season usually sees the waiting times being the longest). If you would like us to make you a rug, please contact us via email jack@relaxed.org.uk or phone 07929204521. We look forward to receiving your fleeces and turning them into rugs you can be proud of! |
